Emily Fiffer & Heather Sperling

Before they conquered LA's dining scene with exhuberant veggie-forward fare, Botanica co-owners Emily Fiffer and Heather Sperling were food and lifestyle scribes (Sperling at Tasting Table, Fiffer at the now defunct Daily Candy). Now, when they're not coming up with inspired dishes like spice-braised chickpeas and smoked beet tartine, they channel their editorial talents into Botanica Magazine, the restaurant's digital publication that features recipes, shopping and posts on healthful eating accompanied by gorgeous photography. Check it out (salad for breakfast!?) along with the duo's current online obsessions, below.

Rocket & Squash

"A British blog/site with a weekly letter called the Supplemental, where founder Ed Smith distills fantastic food content from the UK's printed weeklies. (London is my food media crush.)" - Emily

The Ann Friedman Weekly

"I know, I know—obvious choice! But I have everlasting love and admiration for Ann's ability to curate culture and politics. I also love Quartzy. Jenni Avins makes Fridays happier. Her smart, punchy emails always lead me to new discoveries." - Emily

Current Podcast Crushes

"'Dear Joan and Jericha': Cringe-worthy British humor at its finest. 'Longform': I'm an avid reader and love a good interview. These in-depth author and journalist interviews scratch both itches." - Emily

Patti Smith on Instagram

"Daily poetry from the magical Patti Smith. It makes me laugh, cry, smile, feel all the feels and, as far as I'm concerned, is the single best thing about Instagram right now." - Heather

The Defiant Ones

"I just watched this four-part documentary about Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine; it's a total propaganda piece, but a most compelling one. There's crazy footage of Dre and Jimmy in their studios in the '80s, '90s and early '00s with the names who are now the biggest in music. Plus, their shared obsessiveness about detail and quality made me feel sane/justified in mine... and watching Dre sit contemplatively in a giant armchair in front of his Sugimoto seascape is a total moment of zen."- Heather

Bill Wurtz's History of Japan

"Can Bill Wurtz teach me everything, please?"- Heather

The New York Times Mini-Crossword

"I do it every day! Takes a minute (more or less), and is such a delightful little snippet of word-gaming. I also endorse the full NYTimes Crossword App. (Real talk: My husband and I have been known to go out to dinner, sit at the bar, and do the crossword together. It's sexy.)" - Heather
